REVIEW: LET THERE BE POWER - A PROJECT OF HFG KARLSRUHE AND MERTEN
During PASSAGEN 2008 at the imm cologne, Merten and HfG Karlsruhe presented the exhibition "Let there be power" (14-20 January 2008).

"What happens with the electricity from the socket-outlet? What alternatives are there to conventional switches on the wall?" A pool of top-class ideas were introduced during the PASSAGEN in an unusual exhibition that inspired visitors to admire and test it. The location, the Spichern Höfe in the Belgian Quarter, was an atmospheric highlight. With Jil Sander, boffi Kitchens and Tobias Grau as our neighbours, the Merten exhibition was surrounded by absolute premium manufacturers. Not only at the cocktail evening on 15 January 2008, but every day there were sometimes more than 100 visitors at the exhibition at the same time, who left very positive feedback.

"Merten distinguishes itself clearly from other manufacturers, not only with products alone but also with its promotion of young design talents, for whom a platform was made here." (Visitor of the Passagen 2008)

If you missed the exhibition in Cologne, you can look forward to the Designparcours in Munich from 28 February to 9 March 2008: At the former combined heat and power plant on Müllerstraße, Merten, together with the HfG Karlsruhe, again presented the results of the project "Let there be power".

IF PRODUCT DESIGN AWARD 2008 - EXCELLENT SWITCH DESIGN
Merten again demonstrated its quality in one of the oldest and most prestigious design competitions worldwide. The judges of the "iF product design award 2008" awarded both the jumbo switch and the round switch by Konstantin Grcic the iF award for outstanding product design.

The jury was enthusiastic about the sophisticated simplicity of the jumbo switch, which achieves a special effect not only as an architectural highlight on the wall. The size of the switch makes it easy to use and the suitable for use in hospitals, for example.

The round switch of Konstantin Grcic was convincing with its unmistakable and independent design. Deviating from the "norm" of the square shape and trying something new was a reason to win the "iF product design award 2008", the jury's judgement said.

MAINZ CLINICAL CENTRE - INTELLIGENT SOLUTIONS FOR HOSPITALS
For Merten, integrating their product solutions into the newly built clinical centre at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz presented a challenge - after all, it was about supporting conservative medicine, competently providing for the Merten products and using them optimally in accordance with their function efficiently, and integrating external systems.

Merten switches can be found in the flush-mounted variant, the 2mm flat variant M-PLAN II, and in flush-mounted installation from behind in the bed splints for normal care, intensive care unit, and supply rails. They were also installed in medical partition wall systems, furniture systems, laboratory equipment, and as a normal flush mounted insert. In addition to Merten switches, the ARGUS surface-mounted movement detector is installed in the clinical centre's underground car park. It optimises the energy savings of the entire building and greatly reduces energy consumption.

With the integrated project at the clinical centre of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Merten has proved its competence in products as well as detailed solutions.
